Cannabis 101

Cannabis, the plant from which marijuana is derived, has been used by humans for thousands of years. While it is often associated with recreational use today, its applications have historically included industrial, spiritual, and medicinal purposes. Cannabis contains a distinctive blend of chemical compounds that scientists continue to study. These compounds show potential for therapeutic use and have made cannabis a growing focus of medical and scientific research.

Unlike a simple plant, cannabis is a complex mix of chemical compounds. The most well-known is THC (tetrahydrocannabinoid), the psychoactive compound responsible for the intoxicating “high” associated with marijuana use. However, THC isn’t the only significant compound. CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive compound gaining attention for its potential therapeutic benefits.
